Dressing For New Year's Lunch

There are three days left until Christmas! Can you believe it flew by this quickly? My family is mostly all in Los Angeles so I am very excited to spend the holidays with them. Things start to slow down a bit around this time and quality time with family is what I look forward to. Every year, we spend New Year's together where we play games, eat delicious food, and dress up in festive outfits. Since both of my aunts live out of town, they fly in for the Holidays and we also have our annual New Year's lunch. Our New Year's lunch is more intimate and definitely a memorable one. New Year's Eve is a big tradition within our Armenian culture and I have grown up always exchanging gifts on December 31st.

This year, I have partnered up with Marks & Spencer to showcase what I will be wearing to our New Year's lunch.  I got this camel coat and it’s been my favorite piece in my closet currently. Since we always like to sit outdoors on the patio during lunch, I kept my outfit warm with a marled mock neck sweater and classic jeans. The red lip makes this classic combo feel festive. I definitely styled my outfit with an oversized statement handbag to utilize for all of the gifts that I will be passing out to my family.

Have a wonderful day and I will see you again this week for some more holiday posts!

Xo,
Lillian

Warm to the Core

It's finally December and I can't believe time flew by this quickly! It seems as if it was yesterday we were bringing out our bathing suits and now we are trading them in for our layering pieces. Personally, it's one of my favorite seasons cause it allows you to have fun with different fabrications and mix and match various silhouettes for warmth and style!

As I have gotten older, my shopping techniques have changed and I have started to invest in core staples a lot more. What are some of your favorite closet staples? For winter, I love a great long sleeve turtleneck that is lightweight enough to layer under a coat but soft enough to keep me warm. I am all about everyday pieces that provide exceptional warmth but are still chic and comfortable at the same time.

Although oversized silhouettes are making their mark in the fashion industry, the tight turtleneck has made a comeback and it hugs every woman in the right places. I remember browsing through photos of my mom wearing high waisted pants with her classic turtleneck sweater. I was definitely inspired by her and wanted to recreate this empowering look. What I love about this classic camel color too is that it’s polishes, retro, and sexy at the same time.

Uniqlo's HEATTECH collection is made to keep you warm to the core with its thin clothing that is stretchy, stylish and comfortable against the skin. I kept my turtleneck very neutral because it's one of the most versatile silhouettes worth investing in this winter. It's the perfect transitional piece that can be worn in various ways. I styled it with their high rise legging pants in black to keep the ensemble chic and comfortable enough to run errands throughout the day. P.S. these pants elongated my legs and kept me warm as the temperatures dropped throughout the day.

The best part about these layering pieces is that they are not only practical but provide tons of style!

Statement Skinny Jeans

I have always been a denim gal. I own one too many and can never have enough. It is October and Los Angeles is finally jumping into fall weather with cooler temperatures. It’s not quite cold enough for our coats to come out to play but it’s the perfect weather for some statement jeans and a blazer.

Every season, I always have a collection of favorite fall items that I wear continuously. And let me just start by saying that I always search for a great pair of jeans that fit my waist, are skinny at the ankles and have a little distress. Today, I am wearing these Hudson jeans from Zappos and I fell in love with the wash, the fit and how comfortable they are. Zappos has always been one of my favorite shops for denim, since they carry all of my favorite brands and are getting tons of new styles constantly. With a hectic schedule and always on the go, I love shopping online but what always catches my eye is an e-commerce site with great customer service and return policy. Zappos has fast and free shipping and a 365-day return policy, which fits perfectly for the busy lifestyle of a stylish working gal.

Today, I am wearing a new pair from Hudson that I recently got from Zappos and I am in love with the subtle shredding, flattering mid rise and super skinny leg at the ankle. Skinny jeans have officially moved into the “classics” category in my closet. They can be cool enough for weekend wear but classic pieces for a casual work day as well. I am sharing 5 tips on how to style skinny jeans this season:
  1. Style with over the knee boots and a sporty jacket for cocktail hour with friends.
  2. Tuck in your short and add pumps for a desk to drinks attire.
  3. Polish your look up by pairing it with a blazer
  4. Style a cropped skinny to show off statement shoes.
  5. Update your weekend look with sneakers and a band tee.
Leave me a comment if you love skinny jeans as much as I do! Make sure to check out Zappos for all of your shopping needs because you will totally fall in love with how quick and convenient it is!

Have you met fashion’s favorite new jacket yet? – The Bomber is in and it’s here to stay. It’s taken over the fashion world and can be found in usual colors, silhouettes, and fabrications.  Whether it’s color blocked or has floral embroidery, each one has unique details that will have you fall in love instantly. This jacket is one of the “must-have” versatile pieces to own for Fall.  So how do you integrate fashion’s new coat into your wardrobe? Pair with a pair of skinny jean, lace up shoes and bold accessories for that concert you have been dying to go to. Mix it up and style it with a sexy fitted midi dress and sneakers for a comfy chic look. Can’t go wrong with a white t-shirt, destroyed denim and some laminated gold sneakers as well!

I have gathered some of my favorites styles for this season and you can find them below. Let me know in the comment section below which one is your favorite!

I wanted to keep my look casual enough to run to the mall but flirty and feminine enough for date night. I kept it minimal with black ankle crop jeans, a white tie-front blouse, and dressed it up with my black bow pumps.

Little White Shirt Dress

I am typically your denim obsessed kind of gal. A good pair of jeans can be dressed up or down and it always looks chic. I do love a great dress though, especially when its a shirt dress. Coming from someone who owns the same button up shirt in multiple colors, it's always my classic go-to. When I discovered this shirt dress silhouette, I knew I had to own it.

How do you style a shirtdress, you ask? It's typically a long button-up shirt or you can even get creative and make your own out of an over-sized shirt. It's a casual and easy to style silhouette. During warmer days, it can be styled on its own with a block heel or some sneakers. My favorite is to pair a cropped sweater over it with a long duster for colder winter days.
There is a cool factor to a shirt dress - although its a simple silhouette, when styled right, it can look very street-chic and classic.

Coco Chanel's Signature Hat

With my love for fashion, comes my love for the fashion icon herself - Coco Chanel. She defines the meaning of style for me and it's always so inspiring to infuse a little more of the Coco aesthetic into my wardrobe. Her characteristics include simplicity and elegance. She was always able to transform men's wear into chic and comfortable feminine clothing.

Coco Chanel's took Thom Browne's boater hat and elevated it into new fashion heights, just as she did with the little black dress. Being an advocate for breaking all fashion rules, she has been credited with re-inventing it to a whole new level. Originally a men's formal summer hat, Chanel became a licensed hat-maker and owned her first shop in 1910.

I was never a big fan of hats until I discovered the boater. It's the perfect accessory to any outfit and I love its nautical aesthetic. It can make a casual outfit feel fun and filled with character. It can also add structure and a chic factor to a blazer or suit. The boater hat was the start of my hat collection and it has now resulted to over 20 hats in my closet.

I have added a few of my favorite tips on how to style hats, including some DO's and DONT's.

DO decorate or embellish your hat.
A hat with a ribbon or embellishment can instantly add a chic factor to your ensemble.

DON'T match your brown fedora too perfectly with your all-brown outfit.
Stay away from being too matchy matchy. If your outfit is brown or dark neutrals, play it up with a different tone, such as nude, to set your look apart.

DO pick the right shape for your face.
Make sure the hat fits your face shape. I am 5, 6'' and I like a hat with a wider brim.

DO be mindful of color.
If you're an all black ensemble, keep the hat black. However, don't be afraid to add a pop of color to play beautifully with your casual look. A burgundy hat always looks perfect with denim and a casual white top.

Most importantly, have fun! If you like these styling tips, leave me a comment and let me know! I would love to incorporate more tips and advice.
